What is the most important element when you decide to change your lifestyle? The answer is risk!

Many Americans speak a lot about what is good and what is not good for you. For example, people will often suggest to others that they need to walk because it is good for you, or that one must eat more vegetables and/or protein because it is good for you, etc. But if you take a close look at the person doing the suggesting, sometimes that very same person does not walk all that much nor eat a lot of vegetables or a decent dose of protein. What’s the problem? Why is one only talk, but not taking any action towards a healthy lifestyle? Again, the answer is risk.

Is there a risk? Yes. The risk is major and that is to get out of one’s comfort level. When life is set in a daily routine and it is comfortable, the changes are not welcome. Changes always involve some level of risk. For example, one has to get up earlier in the morning, or make different choices at the grocery store, such as choosing organic instead of conveniently boxed and packaged junk food. Often, one ends up cooking those healthy products that were purchased fresh from the organic market. Another risk is to miss a show on the TV. The time that one used to spend in front of the TV is not spent on a treadmill at the GYM. At the GYM there is a whole new level of risk. One is that a lot of people at the GYM are already fit and can pull weight heavier than you. The abs are tight. The risk is not to fit in, the risk is that everyone is looking better than you is a large. You are obviously out of your comfort zone. Is it better to go home and get some ice cream and spend a night in front of the TV? It is a possible solution, but then you would live just an ordinary life.

Now, it is time to ask yourself are you OK with living the usual and ordinary life knowing what is good for you, and not do anything to change, anything to gain that good lifestyle or take a risk and have the healthy lifestyle?
